Annually Celebrated History Month Dedicated to Recognizing African American Achievements and Celebrating Black Culture
Scripps College is set to celebrate Black History Month with a series of events starting from February 11, 2022. The events, which will be held in Pacific Standard Time, will focus on themes related to Black health, wellness, and social justice.
The month-long celebration will kick off with a panel discussion on Black Mental Health on February 11, from 3:00 - 4:00 PM PST. The discussion will feature esteemed panelists including Kelley Adams, M.D., Kween Agba, Nina Scott, and Danielle Simien, with Dr. Catherine Thompson moderating.
On Monday, February 14, 2022, from 4:00 - 5:00 PM PST, a community discussion about the acclaimed documentary "Eyes on the Prize: Hallowed Ground" will take place. The film will be available for independent viewing on HBOMax on the same day.
A virtual film screening of "Eyes on the Prize: Hallowed Ground" is also part of the Black History Month events. However, details about the screening are yet to be announced.
The theme for this year's Black History Month at Scripps College is Black Health and Wellness. In line with this theme, a panel discussion on "Representation in STEM - Why Representation Matters" is scheduled for Friday, February 18, from 10:00 - 11:30 AM PST. The panel will feature Christian Aganze, Marquis Bartlett, Angela Booker, Chidiebere Ibe, Samuel Moore, and Cecilia B. Sanders.
Another event, "Soul Food: Share Your Favorite Dishes and Why It Feeds Your Soul", is scheduled for Monday, February 28, from 3:30 - 5:00 PM PST. Participants are invited to share recipes and photos of their favourite comfort foods in the RSVP form for this event.
All events will be held via Zoom, and a link will be sent out to registrants.
