Barrier-free construction set for realization by 2026

The city of Chemnitz, in partnership with the Free State of Saxony, is set to make significant strides in accessibility for people with disabilities, hearing or visual impairments, and those with learning difficulties. This initiative is part of the "Favorite Places for All" investment program, launched by the Free State of Saxony in 2014.

This program, which will provide funds for removing barriers in 2026, is co-financed with tax funds based on the budget adopted by the Saxon State Parliament. Notably, no own funds are required for the projects under this program.

The program aims to turn public facilities into favorite spots for everyone by making them more accessible. Areas of application include doctor's practices, psychotherapy, pharmacies, and other public facilities. The funding can be applied in various areas of public life, including culture, leisure, education, and healthcare.

In a significant boost, Chemnitz will receive 285,500 euros from this program in 2026. This financial support comes from Aktion Mensch, an organisation dedicated to improving mobility and inclusion, including community use of adapted bicycles for people with disabilities.

Interested parties can apply for this program until October 31, 2025. Applications can be submitted to the Social Welfare Office in Chemnitz, and appointments can be made at the Moritzhof, Bahnhofstraße 53, by phone at 488 5084, or by email at [email protected].

It's worth noting that both non-profit initiatives, associations, and commercial businesses are eligible to apply for this program. The goal is to offer a full reimbursement of up to 100% for projects costing up to 25,000 euros. Furthermore, 25% of the total funding amount is earmarked for measures to create barrier-free access in existing outpatient medical practices and dental practices.

The "Favorite Places for All" investment program is based on the directive of the Saxon State Ministry for Social Affairs and Social Cohesion for the investment promotion of facilities, services, and offers for people with disabilities (FRL Investments Participation).

For more information, interested parties can contact the Social Welfare Office Chemnitz, Department of Social Planning, Specialist Office for Senior and Disability Affairs. This is an exciting opportunity for Chemnitz to become more inclusive and welcoming for all its residents.
