In a recent episode of In Depth with Graham Bensinger, comedian Howie Mandel and his wife Jackelyn Shultz opened up about their son, 9-year-old Alex, who was diagnosed with cancer.

Alex, who is shared with Jackelyn and Aleks Shultz, is currently in remission. However, the road to recovery has been long and arduous, as Jackelyn emphasised during the interview.

The treatment for Alex's cancer involves more than just fighting the disease itself. The focus for Alex's treatment is currently on building up his immune system, which was compromised during the bone marrow transplant.

Alex received the bone marrow donation from his sister. The transplant has helped him to beat the cancer, but he is still dealing with the aftermath of the procedure.

America's Got Talent judge Howie Mandel revealed that Alex is doing better, but it's still a struggle for him three to four years after his diagnosis. Alex doesn't have an immune system, preventing him from attending school.

Jackelyn mentioned that people may not realise the extent of the challenges that come after cancer treatment. The treatment for Alex includes follow-ups and aftercare, which will continue for some time.

This is the first time Jackelyn and Howie have talked about Alex's illness on camera. They wanted to raise awareness about the ongoing challenges that families face after a cancer diagnosis, and to encourage people to support organisations that help children with cancer and their families.

The interview discussed Alex's ongoing health challenges, as well as the couple's journey of hope and perseverance. Jackelyn stated that the road to recovery is long, hard, and difficult, but she and Aleks are committed to supporting Alex every step of the way.
