Celebration Salutes Female Web Pioneers, Reinforces Vietnam-Mexico Alliance

The "Long-Haired Army" exhibition, currently open in Mexico City, honours the significant role of Vietnamese women in their nation's struggle for independence. This collaborative effort between the Museum of Women of Mexico, the Vietnamese Women’s Museum, and cultural promoter Kyra Núñez de León showcases the resilience, courage, and contributions of Vietnamese women, both on the home front and the battlefield.

The exhibition, named after the "long-haired army," a historical reference to a group of Vietnamese women who fought for independence, is being held at the Museum of Women of Mexico. It is open to the public free of charge until the end of August 2025, and plans for a reciprocal exhibition about Mexican women in Vietnam next year are already in the works.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico, Nguyen Van Hai, along with officials from Mexican ministries, journalists, and academics. Ambassador Hai emphasised the exhibition's significance as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Mexico. He praised the "long-haired army" female forces led by General Nguyen Thi Dihn as a powerful symbol of the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people.

Cultural promoter Kyra Nuñez de León, who has a long-standing connection to Vietnam, has interviewed many members of the Vietnamese female army. She shares profound admiration for the spirit of Vietnamese women and believes that women in both Vietnam and Mexico share admirable qualities, including courage and a decisive role in building their nations. Kyra Nuñez de León believes that the exhibition stands as a vivid testament to the enduring relationship between Vietnam and Mexico.

Mexico was the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam after its national reunification in 1975. The "Long-Haired Army" exhibition not only celebrates Vietnamese women's historic role but also symbolizes the strong diplomatic and cultural ties between Vietnam and Mexico, marking this significant anniversary.
