Citizens Eager to Lend a Hand
Helga Kallweit, a pensioner from Bispingen, has been facing a challenging situation. Her dementia-stricken husband resides at the Schneverdingen Senior Center Wiesentrift, a place she longs to visit but lacks a personal vehicle. Her heartfelt plea, expressed in a handwritten letter to the Böhme-Zeitung, has touched the hearts of many, leading to an outpouring of support.
Kallweit's desperation was palpable as she shared her inability to visit her husband during the mornings due to his nocturnal habits. This has left her feeling isolated, with limited opportunities to spend time with her beloved spouse.
The coverage on the Facebook portal of the Böhme-Zeitung received about 10,000 interactions, twenty times more than usual, reflecting the deep concern and empathy felt by the community. This response has led to nearly 20 offers of rides for Kallweit, including one from Pastor Frank Blase from the St. Antonius parish.
Ralf Röhrs from Schneverdingen has stepped forward, offering not only a ride service but also an exchange of experiences in dealing with the disease. He has invited Kallweit for a "test drive" tomorrow, his flexible retirement schedule allowing for this act of kindness.
The bus line 156, which runs between Bispingen and Schneverdingen, offers two afternoon departures at 12:10 pm and 13:10 pm, with the last one leaving at 15:47 pm. However, it's important to note that this service is not available on weekends, public holidays, and school holidays.
For those seeking alternative options, line 150 from Bispingen to Soltau runs almost every hour until 17:50 pm. There's also a theoretical trip from Bispingen to Schneverdingen that could be made by taking line 200 to Neuenkirchen and then switching to line 105.
Kallweit prefers her husband to be in the Seniorenheim Ahorn in Bispingen due to accessibility reasons, but there is no free place expected in the foreseeable future. Verena Röhrs, whose mother-in-law will soon be moving into the Wiesentrift, wants to give Kallweit the opportunity to visit her husband once a week.
Nicole Schiel, a full-time geriatric nurse, and Michael Schröder have offered to give Kallweit rides for free as part of their commute to Schneverdingen. This generous gesture not only provides Kallweit with much-needed transportation but also offers a sense of companionship on her journeys.
Helga Kallweit has spent her savings on trips and accommodations in Schneverdingen, but the outpouring of support from the community has brought hope and relief. The spirit of unity and empathy shown by the people of Bispingen serves as a reminder of the power of compassion and the strength of community.
