Diaconal center inaugurated in Offenbach
In the heart of Offenbach, a new Diakonie center named "Gerber 15" has recently been opened, providing a much-needed sanctuary for homeless women who are particularly vulnerable and exposed to violence.
The center, financed by the Diakonie organization, boasts 24 barrier-free accessible apartments, each equipped with private bathrooms and kitchenettes. Additionally, the project offers 11 deceleration beds on 2,000 square meters of usable space.
The building, constructed on the site of the former house at Gerberstraße 15, is owned by OWF Grundbesitz GmbH, belonging to Oliver Wiegand. The city of Offenbach has also shown its support for the project, providing a zero-interest loan.
The construction costs for the center amounted to around eight million euros. The staff of the Diakonie center, who had been temporarily located elsewhere, have now moved back to their new home.
Residents are now gradually moving into the apartments, with the staff providing specialist advice and supported living services to help with crises and moving into one's own apartment.
The center also caters to the daily needs of its residents. The ground floor tea room offers cost-priced drinks, internet-enabled PCs, pastries from the day before, showers, and washing machines. A clothing store, designed for people with low income, is also part of the center, ensuring that those in need have access to essential items.
Diakonie Pastor Markus Eisele stated that projects like this take decisive action against homelessness. The center is more than just a residential home; it's a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of community support.
As the residents begin to occupy the apartments, the center is set to make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most. The Diakonie center "Gerber 15" is a shining example of how a community can come together to support those in need.
