Discussions on health maintenance practices among Russians unfolded
In a comprehensive survey conducted among News Mail readers from over 50 Russian regions, insights into the most common health practices and habits among Russians have emerged. The survey, which took place between 24-29 June, gathered responses from over 12,000 participants.
The findings suggest that a significant number of Russians prioritise their physical and mental health. Nearly half (48%) of the respondents regularly pay attention to their health, with 45% engaging in regular physical activity to maintain their health. Moreover, 39% of Russians communicate with loved ones to maintain their mental health, and 14% study mental health materials to do the same.
When it comes to exercise, the majority (77%) of those who do so do it for overall health, while 44% exercise for weight loss or control. Interestingly, 34% exercise for enjoyment, and 30% for self-discipline and routine. On the other hand, 33% of Russians do not engage in any physical activity.
The survey also revealed that 61% of Russians try to avoid harmful habits to maintain their health, and 42% regularly rest and avoid overloading to maintain their mental health. A considerable number (36%) engage in hobbies to maintain their mental health, and 18% exercise daily.
Maintaining a sleep schedule is also important to many Russians, with 42% doing so to maintain their health. Furthermore, 41% of Russians undergo regular medical check-ups to ensure their health is in check.
In terms of mental health practices, 8% of Russians practice breathing and meditation techniques, while 3% visit a psychologist or psychotherapist. A significant number (29%) maintain a daily routine to maintain their mental health, and 42% regularly rest and avoid overloading to do the same.
The survey also shed light on the sources of health and lifestyle information for Russians. Most (70%) obtain this information from the internet, while 43% occasionally view content from bloggers and experts on physical and mental health in social media.
While the survey did not provide definitive data on the most common health practices and habits among Russians, it offers valuable insights into the health behaviours of the Russian population. These findings can help inform public health initiatives aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and improving the health outcomes of Russians.
In the context of Russia's public health landscape, these findings are particularly relevant. Over the last five years, 62.5% of Russian adults have been reported as overweight, which is a significant public health concern linked to chronic health conditions and mortality risk [1]. Additionally, public perception of the health system in Russia is mixed, with about half of surveyed Russians rating it negatively or completely negatively [2].
Despite these challenges, the survey findings suggest that many Russians are taking steps to prioritise their health and wellbeing. However, more research is needed to understand the specific health practices and habits that are most common among Russians and how they can be leveraged to improve health outcomes for the population.
