HelloFresh Meals Recalled Due to Listeria Risk
Federal health officials have issued a warning against consuming specific HelloFresh subscription meals due to potential listeria contamination in the spinach used in these meals. No illnesses have been reported from the affected spinach, and the detected strain did not match any known outbreak.
The warning covers 10.1-ounce containers of HelloFresh Ready Made Meals Cheesy Pulled Pork Pepper Pasta and 10-ounce containers of HelloFresh Ready Made Meals Unstuffed Peppers with Ground Turkey. These products were produced by FreshRealm and shipped directly to consumers.
The spinach used in these meals was supplied by Sno Pac Foods through Del Mar Foods. The contamination is linked to Nate's Fine Foods, whose products have led to additional recalls. The outbreak strain of listeria was found in samples of pasta made and supplied by Nate's Fine Foods. This strain is also connected to an outbreak in June that has caused at least four deaths and 20 illnesses.
Listeria infections can cause serious illness, particularly in older adults, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. About 1,600 people get sick each year from listeria infections, and about 260 die, according to the CDC. Consumers are advised to discard or return the affected HelloFresh meals and contact the company for refunds. HelloFresh and other affected companies are cooperating with investigations to ensure the safety of their products.
