Iconic author Tony Morrison bids farewell to GLAAD and embarks on a new venture, establishing a media company. (EXCLUSIVE)
Tony Morrison, a three-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, producer, host, and impact strategist, has announced the launch of his new venture - the Morrison Media Group (MMG). The company, established after Morrison's departure from GLAAD, aims to provide access to a broad network of speakers and creators, deliver event programming, campaign launches, partnerships, and custom communications strategies.
The Morrison Media Group's mission is rooted in cultural relevance and social impact, with a focus on helping individuals and organisations "shine brighter, sound bolder, and connect with their communities in ways that matter." The company partners with various entities, including brands, networks, nonprofits, corporate leaders, and changemakers, to transform bold ideas into culture-shifting results through press, content, campaigns, and creative strategies that cut through the noise.
Morrison brings to MMG a wealth of experience from his decade-long career behind the scenes at media giants such as CNN, ABC News, "Good Morning America", and The Walt Disney Company. He has produced live broadcasts, digital specials, and global events for franchises including Disney Parks, Lucasfilm, and Marvel. At ABC News, he launched PRIDE ABC News, the first LGBTQ employee resource group, demonstrating his commitment to elevating LGBTQ stories and corporate belonging.
In 2021, Morrison courageously came out publicly as living with HIV in an essay he wrote for "Good Morning America." In the piece, he emphasised the need for society to accept truth, science, and reality regarding HIV stigma, misinformation, and education. He hopes that sharing his experiences can spare others dealing with HIV from unnecessary hurt, pain, and uncertainty.
Rich Ferraro, GLAAD's chief communications officer and co-executive producer of the GLAAD Media Awards, has praised Morrison's digital and LGBTQ storytelling at GLAAD. Morrison served as senior director of communications for GLAAD, leading major campaigns and cultural tentpole moments across news, entertainment, and digital media.
The Morrison Media Group is the next evolution of Morrison's mission to help others shine brighter, sound bolder, and connect with their communities in ways that matter. The company's offerings include event programming, campaign launches, partnerships, and custom communications strategies, aiming to make a significant impact on cultural narratives and social justice.
- As part of its mission, the Morrison Media Group collaborates with health-and-wellness entities and lifestyle brands to create campaigns that focus on advocating truth and science, such as the one Morrison started when he publicly shared his HIV diagnosis in 2021.
- The Morrison Media Group, with its extensive network of speakers and creators, extends its services to entertainment industries and celebrities, offering custom communications strategies to help them engage with their audience in a meaningful and impactful way, mirroring Morrison's approach during his time at ABC News and "Good Morning America."
