Germany's Darkest Day: RKI Reports 1,129 COVID-19 Deaths

In a crushing blow, Germany suffered its highest number of COVID-19 fatalities since the pandemic began. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) confirmed an alarming total of 1,129 deaths within a 24-hour period, as reported this Wednesday morning. This distressing statistic likely includes previously unreported cases, owing to offices being offline during the Christmas holidays.

The sobering news doesn't end there. New infection cases are on the rise again, with the RKI announcing 22,459 fresh cases—a mere 9% fewer than a week ago. In recent days, the decrease in cases compared to the previous week had Fallsen consistently by 30% to over 50%, apparently due to the holidays.

Adding to the mounting concerns, 5,643 COVID-19 patients were in intensive care units this Wednesday morning, 61 more than the day prior.
