Innovative Dementia Support Initiatives Honored in Arnsberg
The Deutsche Alzheimer Gesellschaft recently honoured innovative initiatives supporting people with dementia. The 'Living with Dementia' ideas competition culminated in a ceremony at the Service House Arnsberg on September 24th, where winners were recognised for their creative and practical solutions.
The Sauerland Museum in Arnsberg scooped a prize for its group tours tailored to people with dementia. Meanwhile, 'Drehmomente Arnsberg e.V.' secured the 3rd prize for offering accompanied rickshaw rides, providing a unique experience for participants.
The Caritas Day Care Hüsten impressed judges with its 'Kamishibai' storytelling theater, winning the 1st prize. This interactive project engages people with dementia and their families. Hanna Ewert's theater project 'The Little Prince', involving both those with and without dementia, earned her the 2nd prize.
Entries spanned practical everyday aids to creative meeting formats and participation projects, demonstrating the diverse needs and potential solutions for people with dementia.
Each winner received financial recognition for their initiative. The competition, organised by the Deutsche Alzheimer Gesellschaft, aimed to raise awareness of dementia and foster social cohesion. Martin Polenz, managing director of the Dementia Network, praised the importance of small everyday improvements for those affected by dementia and their relatives. The Arnsberg Dementia Network extends gratitude to all participants, hoping to create a more dementia-friendly society.
