Lawbreakers peddling illegal pills arrested in Latvia

In a recent development, eight individuals have been detained in Latvia in connection with an alleged distribution of illegal medicines, including anabolic steroids. Seven of the suspects are Latvian citizens, and one is a Russian citizen.

The criminal investigations are ongoing following the receipt of information by the State Police about the illegal distribution of these medicines. The suspects are accused of operating an internet shop for the purpose of selling the medicines, with the distribution being conducted through persons known to them.

The medicines were stored in several warehouses in Rīga, Latgale suburb, Purvciems, as well as in the homes and cars of the suspects. However, no location-specific warehouses have been mentioned beyond Rīga, Latgale suburb, Purvciems.

The suspects are accused of conducting an unregistered business on a significant scale (Article 207(2) of the Criminal Law). They are also accused of illegal use of a trademark, other distinctive mark, and design (Article 206(2) of the Criminal Law).

Large-scale money laundering is another accusation against the suspects (Article 195(3) of the Criminal Law). The medicines had an untraceable origin and storage conditions, suggesting that they were sold outside the legal drug circulation network.

It is important to note that no person is considered guilty until proven guilty of a criminal offence in accordance with the procedure laid down by law. The reminder was issued by the National Police.

Some of the suspects have previous convictions for illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs. The details of these convictions were not disclosed in the available information.
