Lithium company Standard teaming up with Telescope Innovations to generate advanced solid-state battery components

Standard Lithium Ltd., a leading near-commercial lithium company, and Telescope Innovations have made a significant breakthrough in the battery industry. The duo has developed a novel, low-temperature, IP-protected method for producing lithium sulfide (LiS), a key raw material for next-generation solid-state battery chemistries.

This groundbreaking process allows for the use of technical-grade feedstocks and reduces processing temperatures to less than 100 °C. This reduction in temperature lowers equipment complexity and operating costs, making it a cost-effective solution for the rapidly evolving battery industry.

The new process, which is part of Standard Lithium's continuous effort to develop new conversion technologies for next-generation battery materials, transforms both lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate into feedstocks required for next-generation solid-state batteries. This development addresses the scarcity and high cost of commercially produced lithium sulfide, a crucial step towards overcoming the challenges faced by the industry.

Dr. Andy Robinson, President and COO of Standard Lithium, commented on the development, stating, "This new process is a significant step towards Standard Lithium becoming a leading producer of next-generation solid-state battery materials in North America."

Samples of the lithium sulfide have been shipped to solid-state battery companies in Asia and North America for testing and validation. The partnership between Standard Lithium and Telescope Innovations continues to benefit both parties and their shareholders.

It's worth noting that Standard Lithium's focus remains on building the first DLE project in North America at their South West Arkansas Project Phase 1 with Equinor. The new process is integral to staying at the forefront of the rapidly evolving battery industry.

Moreover, the development of new IP and technology with Telescope Innovations is seen as a step towards Standard Lithium becoming the leading new lithium company in North America. The Arkansas Demonstration Plant, a source of lithium products for the production of next-generation lithium sulfide products for use in solid-state batteries, is another testament to Standard Lithium's commitment to innovation and sustainability.

This collaboration between Standard Lithium and Telescope Innovations not only enhances safety in manufacturing by avoiding high-temperature conditions and associated thermal risks but also positions both companies at the forefront of the next generation of battery technology.
