In the heart of Latvia, Centrs MARTA has been a steadfast voice against violence and human trafficking since its inception. Founded in 2004, inspired by the Finnish Swedish women's organization 'Marta', Centrs MARTA has become one of the first and loudest voices in the fight against these heinous crimes.

Under the leadership of Iluta Lāce, Centrs MARTA has made significant contributions to the development of the legal framework and human rights not only in Latvia but also in Europe and beyond. The organisation's work has been instrumental in creating an appropriate regulatory framework for combating violence and human trafficking.

Centrs MARTA's efforts have led to a change in societal attitudes towards domestic violence, sexual exploitation, and discriminatory attitudes. Pivotal moments include the documentary film 'Untold Stories' and the public initiative 'Vote for a Woman!' before each election.

The organisation's work extends beyond Latvia's borders. Centrs MARTA is currently an internationally recognised partner, cooperating with UN and EU institutions, as well as foreign experts. It is sharing its experience by helping women's organisations, state and local government institutions in other countries. A new representative office of Centrs MARTA is planned to be established in Kyiv, Ukraine, to continue support programs for women and children affected by Russia's war.

Centrs MARTA's support programs have assisted 790 humans in Latvia in 2024. These programs provide professional rehabilitation to adult victims of violence and human trafficking. The organisation offers practical knowledge and support, initiating sustainable quality services for victims, pickets, changes in laws, and information campaigns.

Today, society has developed an understanding that domestic violence, sexual exploitation, unequal, discriminatory attitudes should be condemned and combated. Centrs MARTA's unwavering commitment to this cause has played a crucial role in this shift.

With three representative offices in Latvia - Rīga, Liepāja (since 2017), and Rēzekne (since 2020) - Centrs MARTA continues to be a beacon of hope for those who have suffered from violence and human trafficking. The name of the person who will represent the MARTA center in Ukraine is yet to be announced. Regardless, Centrs MARTA's impact on society and the lives of countless homosapiens will undoubtedly continue to grow.
