Mental Health Professional Claims Frequently Undervalued Migrant Aggression
Forensic psychiatrist Frank Urbaniok, a professor at the universities of Zurich and Konstanz, has raised concerns about the disproportionate representation of migrants from certain countries in serious crimes in Germany.
In his new book, "Dark Sides of Migration," Urbaniok presents an analysis of police criminal statistics from 2023. He found that Afghans are over 700% more likely than Germans to be suspects in grievous bodily harm cases, while Gambians are even more overrepresented in sexual offenses. Syrians and Algerians also show significant overrepresentation in these crimes.
Urbaniok argues that these statistics cannot be explained solely by reporting bias or prosecution rates. He points to homicide data, which does not rely on victim complaints, as evidence of similar trends.
The professor, who was previously the chief physician in the canton of Zurich, believes that this overrepresentation is rooted in deeper, culturally conditioned factors. He suggests that violence may be more socially legitimized in some countries to achieve goals, and that for many migrants, violence is often seen as a sign of strength.
Urbaniok accuses politicians and criminologists of systematically downplaying violence by migrants for years. He claims this downplaying is done with targeted disinformation and statistical tricks, often to prevent right-wing extremists from having arguments. However, he argues that this does not eliminate the problems.
Urbaniok contends that ignoring these statistical realities out of political correctness is socially destructive. He calls for a comprehensive migration policy turnaround in Germany for the sake of security and societal stability.
