Merger of BIG and Salus BKK slated for 1st January 2027 - Paving the way for a robust future.
In a strategic move to secure their future viability, Salus BKK and BIG direkt gesund have announced their plans to merge, effective from January 1, 2027. This merger will bring together two solid health insurers, combining their strengths to create a stronger, more future-proof entity.
Salus BKK, founded in 1895 and headquartered at Siemensstraße 5a, 63263 Neu-Isenburg, boasts over 170,000 insured members, making it one of the 25 largest company health insurance funds nationwide. With over 300 employees at 15 locations, Salus BKK is well-equipped to handle the growing challenges in the health insurance sector, including increasing cost pressure, regulation, digitalization, and cybersecurity.
BIG direkt gesund, founded in Dortmund in 1996, offers diverse communication channels, respectful and understandable advice, many additional services, and an attractive bonus program. With its legal seat in Berlin, main administration in Dortmund, and an important administrative location in Aachen, BIG employs around 950 staff members at its operational sites, and 13 BIGshops offer on-site advice. Subject to the legally prescribed examinations, the merger will lead the new BIG direkt gesund into the association of company health insurers. The merger is expected to improve and expand customer service at a high level. Through the merger, the new health insurer with around 650,000 policyholders at the current point in time will advance seven places in the nationwide ranking of insurers to 23rd place.
