Ministry Stresses Growth Possibilities for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in the Field of Traditional Medicine

The Ayush Export Promotion Council, Rashtriyay Ayurved Vidyapeeth, and the Ministry of AYUSH hosted an industry interactive session titled "Fostering Growth: SME Schemes and Opportunities for the Ayush Industry" on July 16, 2025. The event, which brought together key policymakers and industry stakeholders, aimed to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the traditional medicine sector.
Dr. Kousthubha Upadhyaya, Adviser to the Ministry of Ayush, opened the session by emphasizing the crucial role that MSMEs play in the growth and innovation of the Ayush industry. She highlighted the need for collaborative efforts to strengthen and scale the Ayush ecosystem through innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
Anuja Bapat, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of MSME, presented various government schemes tailored to Ayush-oriented MSMEs. These schemes aim to enhance product quality, increase operational scale, and provide financial and policy support to entrepreneurs in the traditional medicine sector. Ms. Bapat's address provided practical information on how entrepreneurs can leverage government support to expand their operations in the Ayush sector.
Top officials like Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha (Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH) and S.C.L. Das (Secretary, Ministry of MSME) emphasized improving product quality and scaling operations to fulfill domestic and international demand. This includes adopting higher quality standards and increasing the global competitiveness of Ayush products. In their closing remarks, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha and S.C.L. Das stressed the need for greater scalability in the Ayush industry.
The event also showcased innovation opportunities such as the use of Sea Buckthorn in Ayush formulations. Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Kumar Dadhich, CEO of the National Medicinal Plants Board, discussed the untapped potential of Sea Buckthorn for Ayush-based formulations.
Ritu Sain, Investment Commissioner of Chhattisgarh, presented investment opportunities in the state that align with the goals of the Ayush sector. These opportunities help MSMEs access markets and capital, further fostering their growth and competitiveness.
The session concluded with a collective commitment to promoting sustainable growth, innovation, stakeholder collaboration, and increasing the role of MSMEs to boost the Ayush industry domestically and globally.
