Monarch confirms hospital admission - Monarch underwent medical admission

Wondering how our beloved Queen Margrethe II of Denmark (85) is doing? On May 8th, the palace confirmed that the queen had been admitted to hospital following the cancellation of a scheduled event. At the moment, the exact details regarding her health status remain undisclosed.

A Trip to Rigshospitalet for Observation

Here's the lowdown on what we know: according to a statement on the royal website, "a cold that Her Majesty Queen Margrethe has caught has led to the decision to admit the queen for observation at Rigshospitalet." Rigshospitalet, the university hospital located in Denmark's capital, Copenhagen, is no stranger to treating Queen Margrether II.

The queen celebrated her 75th birthday on April 16, 1940, and has been reigning since January 14, 1972, until January 14, 2024. In her New Year’s address on December 31, 2023, she announced her abdication on her 52nd jubilee. Her son, Frederik X (56), succeeded her as the king of Denmark. Despite her abdication, she continues to retain her queen title and is addressed as Her Majesty.

In recent years, Queen Margrethe II has been hospitalized more than once. Back in September 2024, she sustained injuries to her neck and left hand following a fall at the palace, according to a palace statement. In 2023, she underwent major back surgery at Rigshospitalet.
