Month-Long Initiative Focused on Transitioning into Elderly Life: "Marburg Action Month"

Marburg, a vibrant university town, is set to host the "Move into Age" Action Month from September 1st to October 1st, 2025. Organised by the city of Marburg, local clubs, and the Marburg Volunteer Agency (FAM), this programme aims to inspire movement as a contribution to health maintenance and against loneliness. The theme of the Action Month is "Movement knows no age".

The Action Month offers over 200 movement-related activities, including sports, lectures, and interactive activities. Participants can look forward to a diverse range of activities such as walks, self-defense, yoga, ball sports, various forms of gymnastics, Nordic walking, rowing, dragon boat paddling, hiking, and different forms of dancing.

The programme kicks off with a 3,000-step walk with Mayor Dr. Thomas Spies on September 1st. The month concludes with a dance festival of the generations on October 1st, taking place at KFZ in Biegenstraße 13. This event will feature guided dances, info stands of the Marburg dance scene, and an open dance party with different music rhythms and styles.

Notable events include a lecture by Professor Dr. Ralf Laging, a professor of sports and movement pedagogy at Philipps University Marburg, titled "Movement knows no age - everyday life as an opportunity" on September 4th at 5 pm in the consulting center with integrated care point (BiP). Another highlight is the screening of the film "Ice Aged" about older people trying out ice skating, which will be shown on September 10th, at 5 pm in the Capitol Cinema.

Additional events outside the specified dates include weekly movement offers from clubs. The "Schritte-Challenge" team participation is possible via the "Teamfit" app during the Action Month, with a prize-giving ceremony taking place during the dance festival on October 1st.
