Mother's Grief Leads to Support Network and 5K Fundraiser

Cathy Semeria, a mother who lost her daughter Christina in a tragic car crash in 2016, has found solace in community and faith while navigating her grief. She, along with other bereaved mothers, has formed a support network and written a book to share their experiences. Now, they're hosting a 5K fundraiser to honour Christina's memory and support young people.

Cathy, like many grieving parents, has discovered that grief is a complex journey that evolves over time, bringing both profound sorrow and deeper joy. She has found comfort in connecting with other grieving mothers, leading to the formation of Warrior Moms, a monthly support network.

In 2021, fourteen Warrior Moms, including Cathy and Melissa Linn, co-authored 'Grieve Like a Mother - Survive Like a Warrior'. The book offers insights into their shared experiences, aiming to provide reassurance and understanding to others facing similar losses.

To honour Christina's memory and provide opportunities for young people, Cathy and her family established the Spark in the Dark Foundation. This Sunday, Oct. 5, they're hosting a 5K fundraiser run at the UGA Golf Course, with virtual participation also available.

The 5K run is more than just a fundraiser; it's a testament to Cathy's belief that grief changes but never truly ends. It's a reminder that Christina, and all the children lost too soon, are not forgotten. Through their foundation and support network, Cathy and the Warrior Moms ensure that the love and light of their children continue to shine, sparking hope and joy in the lives of others.
