Airwave Healthcare Brings Innovative Technology to Aid Patients at NHS National Rehabilitation Centre

Airwave Healthcare has been selected to equip bedrooms at the upcoming NHS National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) with 'intelligent bedside terminals', transforming patient care with multifunctional tablets designed to empower individuals during rehabilitation from life-changing injuries and illnesses.

The NRC, managed by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and scheduled to open later this year, will deploy technology to aid patients in maintaining independence during recovery. The centre's partnership with Airwave Healthcare is a core part of their digital innovation strategy in rehabilitation care.

The intelligent bedside terminals are iPads integrated into patient bedrooms, offering more than just home entertainment services. These devices enable patients to control their room environment, such as lighting, heating, and blinds, helping them maintain independence without needing assistance from staff. This feature is particularly beneficial for patients with limited mobility or memory issues resulting from brain injuries.

In addition to environment control, the terminals provide personalized digital content related to each patient’s rehabilitation journey. Integration with electronic patient records allows patients to access real-time information about their discharge date, medications, diet, and care teams through the devices. This feature encourages active participation in rehabilitation, improving both the patient experience and clinical outcomes.

Furthermore, the terminals offer communication tools, including video calling with family and friends, and the ability to order meals directly from the device via an enhanced MyCareTV service. This holistic approach aims to keep patients engaged throughout their rehabilitation 24/7.

Dean Moody, healthcare services director at Airwave Healthcare, stated that investment in technology that stimulates and engages patients in their care is important to enhance recovery. Moody expressed that it is a privilege to support the NRC, a strong example of excellence in rehabilitation transformation.

Airwave Healthcare was selected for the procurement process based on cost and extensive experience supporting providers in the NHS. The company will continue to work with healthcare professionals to understand changing needs and innovate to respond throughout their agreement with the NRC.
