NICE Launches PMG36 Update Consultation for HealthTech Appraisals

NICE has launched a public consultation on proposed updates to its PMG36 manual, aiming to better support technology appraisals in the HealthTech sector. The updates, open until 5pm on 22 October 2025, focus on medical devices, diagnostics, and digital technologies.

The revised manual will offer processes and methods tailored to the unique characteristics of the HealthTech landscape. This could mean clearer pathways for introducing new HealthTech solutions to the market and greater confidence in evidence assessment. The MedTech sector is encouraged to engage with the consultation, which can be accessed via the NICE consultation on PMG36 updates. It's important to note that these updates will not affect how medicines are assessed.

The consultation is open until 5pm on 22 October 2025. NICE encourages the MedTech sector to engage with the process to help shape the future of HealthTech appraisals. The revised manual is expected to improve the assessment of medical devices, diagnostics, and digital technologies, without impacting the assessment of medicines.
