LAHORE: Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq Spills the Beans on Eid-ul-Azha Cleanliness Plans
In a no-holds-barred meeting focusing on Eid-ul-Azha cleanliness plans and arrangements for sale points, Punjab's Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq didn't pull any punches. Here's the lowdown.
Presiding over the meeting on a Friday, Rafiq made it crystal clear that not a single complaint of livestock disease or dengue had been received at any sale point to date. The event was attended by Special Secretary Local Government Asia Gul, Additional Secretary Ahmer Kaifi, and CEOs of waste management companies and municipal chief officers from across Punjab, who joined via video link.
PCMMDC CEO Taseer Ahmed and CEOs of waste management companies delivered presentations on arrangements, leaving no stone unturned. Rafiq pledged to do more than the previous year in pursuit of the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's set targets.
For cleanliness, each waste management company will be distributing eco-friendly waste bags, with a staggering 11.698 million waste bags posted across the province. The estimated waste collected during the three days of Eid will reach a whopping 360,657 tons.
Under the Suthra Punjab program, 124,672 human resources are presently on deck, with an extra 15,204 temporary recruitments made for Eid. The allocation of equipment in Punjab totals 29,638, with an additional 125,794 equipment and machinery arranged for Eid. Moreover, 3,870 primary collection centers and 4,262 UC camps have been established, and awareness camps activated in every city and union council.
Rafiq also announced that control rooms would be established in the offices of municipal committees, with each waste management company monitoring the cleaning operation from its control room, and the central control room in Lahore keeping tabs on the overall situation.
Additionally, apart from Shahpur Kanjran's Model Cattle Market, five sale points have been operational in Lahore. In other areas of the province, PCMMDC's 28 markets have been designated as sales points, with an additional 180 sales points being set up by the Punjab Local Government Department. Furthermore, 84 cattle markets have been kept active on their scheduled days every week.
