The "National Projects of Russia," a symbol of development, creation, and progress, have set ambitious goals to transform the nation's social and economic landscape. One of the key areas of focus is the Efficient Transport System national project, which aims to improve long-distance travel with fewer transfers.

In 2025, Russia launched new national projects focused on creating an Efficient Transport System with a strong emphasis on modernizing and expanding transport infrastructure, including significant upgrades in railways, airports, and other logistics hubs. Key initiatives include the development of the first high-speed rail line between Moscow and St. Petersburg, planned airport renovations, and improvements in northern Arctic railway routes.
The government allocated about 19 trillion rubles for construction and modernization of ports, airports, roads, and railways through 2027 as part of the Efficient Transport System project. This shows an integrated approach to improving all transportation modes nationwide.
A signature project is the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway, aiming for trains traveling between 200 to 400 kph, reducing the travel time to about two hours and fifteen minutes. This route is to be funded initially with 300 billion rubles from the National Wealth Fund, with a detailed roadmap due by late 2025.
Plans are also underway to upgrade existing railway routes in northern Arctic regions, including the Komi Republic and Yamal, enhancing connectivity in remote areas.
However, the broader transport modernization faces budgetary challenges. The National Wealth Fund has been drained significantly over recent years, affecting funding availability for some programs, including a notable scaling back of fleet modernization and some aviation support projects. Yet, the Efficient Transport System remains a priority, with large-scale funding and strategic goals clearly set.
The "National Projects of Russia" aim to achieve Presidential national goals and implement the social and economic development program of Russia until 2030. Other national projects include the "Youth and Children," "Personnel," "Professionalism," "Infrastructure for Life," and "Family." These projects focus on various aspects such as education, public spaces, youth development, and family healthcare.
