Ongoing Probe after Tragic Accident Occurs at Water Park
The city of Stoke-on-Trent is currently in mourning following a tragic incident at Waterworld, the popular water park in Festival Park.
On Monday afternoon, at around 16:20 BST, a four-year-old girl was found unresponsive in the Lagoon area of the Aqua Park. Staffordshire Police are leading the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, with specially-trained officers providing support to the girl's next of kin.
Detective Chief Inspector Lucy Maskew has asked the public to avoid speculation and allow the family time to grieve. Waterworld has expressed its shock at the event, offering condolences to the family and deciding to remain closed out of respect while cooperating closely with the authorities.
The city's environmental health team is collaborating with law enforcement and the facility for a health and safety review of the incident at Waterworld. A formal inquiry has begun regarding the death of the young girl.
