Regional Manager of Hannaford is Now Leading the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy as President

Brad Hamilton, Hannaford Pharmacist and NABP President, Honored for Achievements

Brad Hamilton, a pharmacist at Hannaford Supermarkets, has made a significant impact in the pharmacy industry. Recently, he was elected as the first-ever representative from Maine to become president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).

Hamilton has been a member of the Maine Board of Pharmacy for more than a decade and has served as both president and VP of the board. His dedication to pharmacy practices and education has been recognised through various awards, including the 2021 Excellence in Pharmacy Award from the University of New England School of Pharmacy and the 2022 Bowl of Hygeia Award from the American Pharmacists Association Foundation and the Maine Pharmacy Association.

Hamilton's career with Hannaford Supermarkets spans over 20 years. He currently holds the position of regional pharmacy operations manager. His hard work and commitment have not gone unnoticed, as he received Hannaford's Retail Operations Honorary Backpack Award in 2014.

Hannaford Supermarkets, based in Scarborough, Maine, employs nearly 30,000 associates and operates almost 190 stores, most with full-service pharmacies, in Maine, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The company has been recognised for its sustainability efforts, with Progressive Grocer naming Hannaford Supermarkets one of its Retailers of the Century and among the 10 Most Sustainable Grocers of 2025. Ahold Delhaize USA, the parent company of Hannaford Supermarkets, is No. 11 on Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America.

In addition to Hamilton's accomplishments, another Hannaford associate, Diana Darling, was recognised as Store Manager of the Year. Darling, a store manager at Hannaford Supermarkets, has been commended for her exceptional leadership and commitment to customer service.

Meanwhile, other retailers are also focusing on expanding healthcare access. Marc's is helping to increase OTC, grocery, and pharmacy access in Ohio through a partnership with NationsBenefits for Flex card and BAS tech integration. Meijer is widening its efforts to address the health care needs of rural and senior residents by teaming up with health platform Homeward to expand accessibility to care and medication.

Hamilton's presidency of NABP took place at the organisation's annual meeting in May. As president, he will oversee the NABP's work of supporting and advocating on behalf of its member boards of pharmacy nationwide. His leadership promises to continue shaping pharmacy practices and education, advancing technician education, and influencing regulatory policy grounded in standards of care.

Hamilton's role as the regional pharmacy operations manager at Hannaford Supermarkets, a retail chain that also focuses on health-and-wellness, demonstrates his commitment to both retail operations and pharmacy practices. During his tenure at NABP, Hamilton's leadership will aim to influence regulatory policy in science-based pharmacy practices and education, potentially impacting health-and-wellness outcomes.
