"Reiner Calmund statements: 'I sacrificed half my life for my child'"
Reiner Calmund, a well-known figure in German television and football circles, has undergone a significant transformation. The 64-year-old, who was once over 180 kilograms, has now shed half of his weight, weighing 95 kilograms.
Calmund, a former football manager who used to manage Bayer Leverkusen, made his last appearance as a juror on "Grill den Henssler" on September 14, 2025, during the summer special filmed in Magdeburg. This emotional farewell marked the end of his 18-year journey with the show.
The reason for Calmund's departure from "Grill den Henssler" is not explicitly stated. However, it is known that he felt dizzy during the recording of an episode in December. The nature of his illness or condition that led to the dizzy spell is not detailed. Calmund was taken to a hospital during the recording, but RTL has since reported that he is now doing very well.
Calmund's weight loss was motivated by his desire to spend more years with his adoptive daughter, Nicha. Nicha, a 15-year-old girl, was adopted by Calmund from an orphanage in Thailand. The adoption was a moment of deep affection for Calmund.
During the adoption process, Nicha was reported to have signalled her intention to join Calmund's family. She did not want to leave Calmund's wife Sylvia's side during the adoption. Calmund and Nicha posed for a magazine after the adoption, showing their close bond.
Calmund's career in football extended beyond management. He is also a football expert, often evaluating dishes on "Grill den Henssler" based on their football-themed names or decorations.
Prior to his weight loss, Calmund underwent a stent insertion in a Cologne hospital. He currently resides in Saarlouis.
Calmund's departure from "Grill den Henssler" was in March. His last episode as a juror on the popular German show will be remembered as a significant moment in his life, marking a new chapter in his journey towards health and happiness.
