Relaxations in coronavirus measures to take effect from June 11
In a welcomed move, the city of Düsseldorf, Germany, is easing COVID-19 restrictions, starting from June 11, 2021. These relaxations come as a result of declining infection rates and increasing vaccinations, following the trend observed in many German states.
Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller announced that the 7-day incidence in Düsseldorf has fallen below 35, a significant milestone in the fight against the pandemic. Residents' compliance with mask requirements and bans has played a crucial role in this positive development.
From June 11, small private gatherings are allowed in Düsseldorf, with limits depending on the local incidence rate. Outdoor meetings of up to 10 people or members of up to three households are typically permitted. The Old Town and the Rhine promenade, which have been under a local ban on gathering and alcohol consumption, will see these restrictions lifted.
Cultural events are also making a comeback. Outdoor and indoor theaters, operas, and cinemas will be allowed with up to 1,000 people, subject to conditions like a seating plan, negative tests, and a seating arrangement in a checkerboard pattern.
Sports events are also seeing some relaxation. Sports events without a limit on the number of people are permitted with an approved concept and negative tests, except for events outside of sports facilities. Outdoor and indoor contact sports are possible with up to 100 people, provided negative tests are available. Indoor sports are possible without prior testing since the state incidence is also below 35.
However, the mask requirement as prescribed by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia's Coronavirus Protection Ordinance remains in effect in closed spaces such as buses, trains, retail stores, doctor's practices, or hairdressing services.
City Director Burkhard Hintzsche appeals for continued observation of social distancing and mask requirements where necessary. His appeal is aimed at securing the freedoms that have been gained and ensuring further relaxations can be expected in Düsseldorf, both on a local level.
