Russia experiences a significant share of mortality from social diseases, accounting for approximately 80% of deaths in the country, as per the Health Ministry's latest report.

Roman Gorencev, the main specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow region for general medical practice, has urged Russians to prioritize their health amidst growing concerns over chronic diseases and a recent poisoning incident in Adler.

According to Gorencev, who is also the head of the National Research Institute of Public Health named after N.A. Semashko, smoking, hypertension, and high cholesterol levels are key causes of chronic diseases. These diseases, which include HIV infection, tuberculosis, diabetes, mental disorders, oncology, and hypertension, have a significant impact on public health and life expectancy.

Specialists are urging Russians to pay more attention to their health, regularly undergo preventive examinations, and promptly consult doctors at the first signs of illness. Early detection of dangerous conditions can help reduce the risk of serious complications.

In a tragic turn of events, at least ten people have died, and several others have been seriously poisoned in Adler, Russia, after consuming counterfeit chacha purchased from a local market as of August 2025. The counterfeit chacha contained toxic substances that led to this mass poisoning incident.

Gorencev emphasizes that controlling blood pressure, quitting smoking, and normalizing cholesterol levels can significantly reduce morbidity and mortality from chronic diseases. These changes in lifestyle are not only dependent on medical assistance but also require changes in the population's lifestyle.

The World Health Organization estimates that by 2030, chronic diseases will annually claim around 52 million lives worldwide. In Russia, socially significant diseases continue to dominate the mortality structure despite the efforts of the healthcare system.

As we navigate these health challenges, it is crucial for everyone to take responsibility for their health and make informed choices. Let us strive for a healthier Russia and a healthier world.
