School gas incident causes respiratory problems for 20 students: Irritant gas attack suspected
The Kesselstadt School in Hanau experienced a tear gas incident on Monday afternoon, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
According to initial police findings, a suspect, approximately 1.70 meters tall with a youthful appearance, released the tear gas around 11:25 am in the school's staircase. Many students reported hearing a noise, which may indicate the use of a so-called pepper pistol.
Emergency services, including ambulances, three police units, and the fire brigade, were swiftly dispatched to the school located on Kleinfellerstraße. The fire brigade was called in to ventilate the affected building to ensure the safety of the students and staff.
The police are seeking witnesses to the incident for further information. Investigations regarding the incident are being led by the police on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm. A total of 20 students, 6 girls and 14 boys, were registered as slightly injured, with two being taken to the hospital for further examination due to respiratory irritation.
The suspect, who has not been identified in the available information, was reportedly wearing a "Gucci" baseball cap, "Nike" sneakers, and carrying a waist bag.
