Heike Tatsch, the Equal Opportunities Officer of the city of Lünen, will conduct a workshop titled 'Strategies in Dealing with Hate and Hostility - Strengthening Women in Local Politics' on August 29, 2025. The workshop, scheduled to take place at the Bürgerzentrum Gahmen, is related to the upcoming local election polls and Integration Council election on September 14, 2025.

Ten women from various parties and voter communities participated in the August 29 workshop. The event aimed to strengthen women in local politics, a crucial place for democratic change, as Tatsch emphasized.

The first part of the workshop focused on explaining the meaning of hate and hostility, their consequences, and legal options to counter them. In the second part, participants developed strategies to protect against online harassment and shared personal experiences. The workshop aimed to provide participants with tools and create a basis for networking.

Tatsch, the organizer of the workshop, invited all women who are running for democratic parties or voter communities in the upcoming local election polls and Integration Council election. Due to positive feedback, a follow-up event is planned for next year, although the organizer for the continuation of the workshop at the Bürgerzentrum Gahmen next year has not been specified.

The Equal Opportunities Officer did not specify the exact number of women who were affected by hate and hostility in local politics. However, Tatsch highlighted the importance of strengthening women in local politics, stating that they often face hate and hostility, including sexualized violence.

Tatsch encourages women to engage in local politics, believing it to be a crucial place for democratic change. The workshop is intended to equip these women with the necessary strategies to deal with hate and hostility, fostering a safer and more inclusive political environment.
