After a remarkable 28-year career at Hinz&Kunzt, Sigi Pachan, a well-known figure among the vendors, is set to retire in June.
Born and raised in a children's home in the Black Forest, Sigi's life took an unconventional turn. After his teenage years, he found himself on the streets of Hamburg, living in various makeshift shelters. This transient life continued until he started working at Hinz&Kunzt as a vendor in April 1994.
Sigi's rough exterior, however, concealed a warm heart. His distinctive greeting and fringed leather vest became iconic in the Hinz&Kunzt sales area, and his rough yet endearing demeanor endeared him to all, especially the vendors.
Sigi's personal life has not been without its challenges. He has faced age-appropriate health issues such as leg pain and heart problems. His struggle with alcohol addiction, which led to a divorce after ten years, is a testament to his resilience. Sigi overcame these obstacles when he stopped drinking, detoxified, and underwent therapy after starting work at Hinz&Kunzt.
Despite his personal struggles, Sigi has always been there for his colleagues. His colleagues respect him not only for his professionalism but also for his approachability. They can go to him with problems, and he has been a source of comfort and support for many.
In retirement, Sigi plans to visit Hinz&Kunzt vendors as he has done for years, greeting them as usual. His spot at the entrance counter will be missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he has touched during his time at the company.
