Sochi Hospital Saves Premature Twins' Sight with ROP Treatment
Sochi City Hospital No. 9 successfully treated premature twins for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a condition that can lead to blindness. The twins, born at 28 weeks, underwent laser coagulation of the retina, the only available treatment for ROP. The twins, weighing 730 grams (boy) and 640 grams (girl), were diagnosed with ROP. To save their sight, doctors from the Perinatal Center invited a specialist from Krasnodar. On Monday, the expert performed laser coagulation on both eyes of both babies using advanced technology. This procedure targets and seals the abnormal blood vessels in the retina, preventing further damage. The operation was a success, and the twins' sight has been saved. This marks a significant achievement for the medical team at Sochi City Hospital No. 9, demonstrating their commitment to providing advanced care for premature babies.
