Spotify and UNICEF have introduced a Romanian-language podcast concentrating on mental health issues.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has launched the Romanian-language version of its popular podcast, "On My Mind", marking an important step in addressing the mental health needs of adolescents in Romania.
"On My Mind", initially launched in 2023, is a global podcast aimed at improving young people's knowledge, attitudes, practices, and behaviors regarding mental health. The podcast, available for free on platforms like Spotify, consists of eight episodes for its first season.
The content of "On My Mind" was created together with young people and is based on concrete data regarding their mental health needs. The podcast is described as a safe space where young people can feel understood without fear of judgment. It includes exercises and information that help people maintain their mental well-being on a daily basis.
In Romania, tens of thousands of children and adolescents face mental health issues. One in three adolescents aged 11 to 15 in Romania feels sad at least once a week. This statistic underscores the importance of initiatives like "On My Mind" in providing accessible, relevant, and supportive mental health resources.
Andreea-Denisa, a member of the Romanian Children's Board, supported by UNICEF, stated that "On My Mind" encourages young people to step out of their bubbles and seek help when needed. This sentiment echoes the podcast's mission to break down barriers and stigma surrounding mental health.
UNICEF is currently implementing an initiative aimed at promoting the emotional well-being of adolescents and young people in Romania. The podcast's launch is a part of this broader mental health initiative.
"On My Mind" was first launched in Ukrainian, Polish, and English in June 2023, addressing the mental health needs of young people affected by the war in Ukraine. In 2024, Spanish and Portuguese versions of the podcast were launched, reaching young people throughout Latin America.
With the Romanian-language version now available, "On My Mind" continues to expand its reach and impact, providing valuable resources for young people globally while being adapted to local contexts and languages.
