Swimming in open-air pools halted following a significant alert in Baden-Württemberg

In the town of Wendlingen, Baden-Württemberg, a public swimming pool has been closed following a chlorine gas leak that occurred at around 5:30 AM on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

The incident was caused by a technical defect in the pool, leading to the release of the disinfectant used to maintain water quality. Chlorine is a common disinfectant in public swimming pools, as it neutralizes pathogens through chemical reactions and forms hypochlorous acid, which kills bacteria and viruses.

Fortunately, no visitors were in the pool at the time of the leak, and the population was not put in any danger. The fire department was quickly deployed to investigate the cause of the leak.

The pool will remain closed on August 17, 2025, but is expected to reopen with restrictions in place on August 18, 2025, from 9:00 AM. The swimming pool should be usable again in the afternoon of August 18, 2025.

It's important to note that a low, constant chlorine concentration is used to ensure safe disinfection in public pools, and the release, pH value, and water circulation must be carefully monitored.

For the latest updates on the reopening of the pool, we recommend checking local news sources or official Wendlingen municipal websites.
