Teacher sadly passes away within school premises.
Volgograd School Teacher Dies During Last Bell Ceremony
In a heartbreaking incident, Elena Kozachkova, a 54-year-old teacher, passed away during a significant cultural event in the Krasnoarmeisk district of Volgograd. The school's director, Elena Shvedova, confirmed this tragic event to 'Volgograd Online.'
This incident occurred on May 23 at School No. 134 "Darovaniye." The ceremony, marking the end of the academic year for 9th and 11th graders, was the backdrop for the unfortunate event. Kozachkova, a teacher of Russian language and literature, collapsed during the event. Initially, it was thought she had fainted, but it was later determined that she had died instantly due to a pulmonary embolism.
Shvedova expressed her deep sorrow, stating, "We couldn't save our colleague. We mourn with her family and share their grief." Kozachkova's colleagues also offered their condolences, asserting that she had suffered a cardiac arrest.
According to 'Komsomolskaya Pravda,' the Last Bell ceremony marked Kozachkova's last moment as an educator. This ceremony, a nationwide tradition in Russia, symbolizes the transition from school to adulthood.
The Ministry of Education and Science proposed in 2025 that the Last Bell ceremony be held on May 23 with a five-day week, and on May 24 with a six-day week. This proposed schedule ensures the event serves as a poignant farewell to school for the graduating class, just before final exams and graduation festivities.
This tradition, deeply rooted in Russian culture, signifies the emotional and festive occasion that brings together students, teachers, and families. The ceremony fosters a sense of community and celebration, symbolizing the passage from childhood into adult responsibilities.
Science may have been a subject Elena Kozachkova was passionate about, given her dedication as a teacher. Her sudden medical condition during the Last Bell ceremony, as a result of a pulmonary embolism, underscores the importance of awareness and preventive measures in medical-conditions related to health-and-wellness.
