The past has continually tasked me with accountability, and this obligation is perpetual and unending.
The city of Gütersloh recently played host to a significant event, the inauguration of the Women's Place NRW. This project, initiated by the Women's Council NRW and funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, is a testament to the commitment towards peace, justice, and empowering women's voices in societal debates.
At the heart of this initiative is Sabine Gramlich, a woman whose dedication to these causes is both a challenge and an inspiration. Her sons, Peter and Rainer Gramlich, along with many supporters, gathered to celebrate the occasion and remember their beloved mother. Rainer, in particular, took the opportunity to express his gratitude to those who had supported the project.
The inauguration was a poignant affair, blending personal memories with musical moments. Dagmar C. Weinert, the musical director, curated a selection of peace-themed poems and songs that resonated with the audience. One of the standout performances was an interpretation of 'Boundaries' by Dota Kehr, a song that encapsulates the spirit of global unity with the lyrics, 'I'm checking out, I want a passport where it just says 'Earth resident''.
Inge Trame, Julia Kuklik, and Eckhard Müller spearheaded the application of the project in Gütersloh. In her speech, Inge Trame emphasised the lasting impact of Sabine Gramlich, stating that her memorial plaque keeps her not only in the cityscape but also in our living memory.
The Women's Place NRW is more than just a physical location; it is a symbol of Sabine Gramlich's enduring legacy and a beacon of hope for women's rights and gender equality. As we move forward, it serves as a reminder of the importance of peace, justice, and the power of a strong female voice in shaping our society.
