Marine biologist, research diver, and daredevil Robert Marc Lehmann remains a hot topic (according to Roundup reports). Meanwhile, Junior Uni and Wuppertal's Historic Town Hall hosted their Future Festival on May 25, 2025, with the focus on 'Sustainably Shaping Our Future'.

Tomorrow's Gala: Kids Crafting the World of Coming Days

In the esteemed grand hall, Julian Janssen, nicknamed "Checker Julian", hosted the climactic finale of the Junior Uni Network Challenge. Pupils aged seven to ten from Wuppertal, Essen, Daun, and Mönchengladbach showcased their imaginative conceptions of future mobility. The diverse and vibrant creations were meticulously crafted during the Easter vacations at the participating Junior Unis, resulting in one-of-a-kind, creative masterpieces.

The participating teams had brainstormed and developed their own unique ideas on how mobility might evolve in an eco-friendly future. One group constructed a vehicle that captured and stored rainwater, while others employed mini wind turbines to generate electricity. The event was a fusion of recycling, tinkering, and assembling - with almost every material being recycled or carefully chosen to minimize environmental impact.

The mobile designs ranged from playful and imaginative to technologically intricate, yet all remained focused on sustainability and environmental awareness. The jury of experts lauded the creativity and visionary thinking of the young innovators. "I was genuinely amazed by the accomplishments of these students," said Julian Janssen. "It's truly inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and curiosity of these budding inventors."

In the afternoon, renowned science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar delivered a lecture titled "Emil's World - A Society in Transition." The lecture delved into the world of his grandchildren, illustrating how society will transform due to climate change, digitization, and new value systems - and why it's crucial to actively shape this transformation.

In the entire city hall and garden, the "Market of Possibilities" offered visitors of all ages a unique opportunity to explore, experiment, and participate. Numerous initiatives, companies, and educational institutions presented workshops, actions, and exhibits centered around sustainability, energy, environment, and future technologies. The atmosphere buzzed with curiosity, creativity, and scientific spirit. "It was awe-inspiring to witness such a surge of curiosity, creativity, and scientific spirit in our spaces," said Silke Asbeck (Manager of the Historical City Hall).

Dr. Ariane Staab (Manager of the Junior Uni) candidly expressed her thoughts on the event: "Today demonstrated powerfully what can be achieved when we collaborate on ideas for the future. We are grateful to the Historical City Hall for providing such a magnificent venue for the topic of sustainability."

  1. The young innovators' projects stretched beyond future mobility, exploring topics such as health-and-wellness, with one team creating a bike that promotes fitness-and-exercise and mental-health by providing sensors for mindfulness exercises.
  2. Another initiative showcased at the "Market of Possibilities" was an environmental-science program focused on climate-change awareness, teaching participants about the importance of reducing carbon footprints and preserving natural resources.
  3. As the afternoon progressed, panel discussions were held, inviting specialists in various fields like science and technology to share insights on how these evolving areas can contribute to a sustainable future, thereby fostering a harmonious balance between technology, health, and the environment.
