TWR Marks 70 Years of Broadcasting Gospel, Supporting Persecuted Christians Like Joel

Trans World Radio (TWR) celebrates 70 years of broadcasting the gospel, marking the anniversary while supporting persecuted Christians like Billy Joel, a Hazara from Afghanistan. UNESCO recently honoured radio's crucial role in mass communication on World Radio Day.

Billy, a Christian Hazara, faced imprisonment and torture for his faith and ministry in Afghanistan under the Taliban. On his last day in prison, he was given an ultimatum: renounce his faith or face death. Despite the threat, Billy refused and was later released. Now, he serves his community in Pakistan, discipling around 20 Afghan families, predominantly Hazaras.

TWR, celebrating its 70th anniversary, currently focuses on reaching the Hazara minority through its Reach the Last series. The organisation works with Billy, providing him with MP3 players and SD cards loaded with gospel programming for home churches and gatherings. The Hazaras, with limited physical missionary access, rely on radio and other media to learn about Jesus.

Billy's story serves as a testament to faith and resilience in the face of adversity. TWR, through its 70-year legacy, continues to support persecuted Christians like Billy, using radio to reach communities with the gospel message.
