Uber introduces Senior Accounts and Simple Mode across Middle East and North Africa, catering to elderly users and simplifying app navigation.
Uber's latest innovation, Senior Accounts, is now available in the MENA region, making the Uber app more user-friendly and accessible for older adults. The streamlined interface offers larger text, simplified screens, bigger buttons, and fewer steps to book rides, providing a seamless experience for elderly users.
The introduction of Senior Accounts is part of Uber's ongoing mission to make technology more inclusive and remove barriers to mobility. It addresses the challenges seniors face with public transportation in the MENA region, such as distance, infrequency, and high temperatures, thereby supporting mobility and independence for older adults and their families.
How Senior Accounts Work
To set up a Senior Account, a family member creates a Family Profile in the Uber app and invites an older adult to join as a senior. The senior receives a text message with a link to download the app and create their account. They can then book rides themselves or have relatives manage bookings.
Family members can book or manage rides remotely, track trips in real time, contact drivers or Uber’s safety line if needed, and access driver and vehicle information during rides. Seniors can also save favourite places for easy booking and use flexible payment options, including using other family members' payment methods.
For seniors not linked to a Family Profile, a Simple Mode can be enabled via the app’s accessibility settings to provide a simplified app experience with full control over the account.
Key Capabilities of Senior Accounts
- Family Profile Setup: Family members create a Family Profile and invite seniors to join.
- Independent or Assisted Booking: Seniors can book rides independently or have a family member manage bookings.
- Remote Ride Management: Family members can book, manage, and track rides remotely.
- Favourite Places and Flexible Payments: Seniors can save favourite places and use flexible payment options.
- Simple Mode: For seniors not linked to a Family Profile, a simplified app experience can be enabled.
Availability in the MENA Region
Uber launched Senior Accounts across the MENA region in July 2025, following successful rollouts in the US, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico. The feature is now accessible to Uber users in the MENA countries where Uber operates, aiming to make travel more accessible for older adults throughout this region.
This innovative solution by Uber bridges the gap for seniors who may face difficulties with public transportation, providing flexibility, safety, and peace of mind when using Uber in the MENA region.
