Tainted Alcohol Tragedy in Kazachiy Market Claims Eight Lives
A tragic incident involving counterfeit alcohol has claimed the lives of eight individuals in Sirius Village, Krasnodar Krai. The victims, including a family of four and tourists from Sochi, were found to have the same toxin in their blood.
On July 30, a family of four was affected by the tainted alcohol purchased from Kazachiy Market. The same toxins found in other victims were discovered in the blood of two female tourists from Chelyabinsk, who later lost their lives. Earlier, tourists from Sochi had also fallen victim to the dangerous brew, with the wife dying immediately after drinking the alcohol, and the husband passing away en route to the hospital.
The deadly counterfeit alcohol was linked to illegally produced and sold counterfeit alcoholic beverages, often manufactured by underground producers operating without proper licenses or quality controls. This led to methanol poisoning and fatalities.
Following the outbreak of poisonings, law enforcement raided Kazachiy Market on the day the information was reported, and a 60-year-old vendor suspected of selling the dangerous alcohol was arrested. However, merchants at the market continued selling the tainted alcohol for a week after the first poisoning incident.
Local vendors claim that the producers of the deadly brew got rid of the surrogate on August 3. Only one member of the family was successfully revived, while the other three died. The tourists from Sochi left behind two daughters, aged 4 and 14.
The authorities are currently conducting ongoing investigations to identify the exact identity of the producers, typically involving criminal networks specializing in counterfeit alcohol. The removal process of the tainted alcohol from the market happened within days to weeks, depending on how quickly the authorities responded.
