Vietnam Cancer Association & AstraZeneca Join Forces to Fight Cancer Nationwide

The Vietnam Cancer Association (VCA) and AstraZeneca Vietnam have joined forces to tackle cancer nationwide. They signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 19, aiming to update professional guidelines, boost healthcare professional capacity, and promote public health education in oncology.

The partnership seeks to reduce the significant cancer burden in Vietnam. In 2022, the country recorded an estimated 180,480 new cases and 120,184 deaths, with breast, liver, lung, and colorectal cancers being the most common.

AstraZeneca Vietnam, led by General Director Atul Tandon, has already established a collaborative ecosystem in oncology through partnerships with leading hospitals and training institutions. The company has organised international scientific conferences and workshops to advance Vietnam's oncology sector.

Over the next couple of years, the partnership plans to develop and update 'Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines' for various cancer types. These will be submitted as national standards by 2025-2026. Strategic initiatives also include advancing professional guidelines, scientific conferences, research support, and international engagement.

The VCA, under President Bui Dieu, and AstraZeneca Vietnam are committed to transforming cancer care nationwide. By combining global expertise with local knowledge, they aim to reduce the cancer burden through collaboration, training, and public awareness. The partnership's long-term goal is to improve cancer outcomes and save lives in Vietnam.
